The partnership will see Veolia support the Clean Marina Program and work with marinas on improving waste and recycling practices.

The Clean Marina Program is an international voluntary accreditation system for marinas, yacht clubs, boat clubs, slips, boatyards and associated industry operators. The Clean Marina Program has been developed to support marine industries in their endeavours to protect our coastal and inland waterways. Veolia will therefore work closely with the MIAA to deliver better waste and recycling services for marinas.

With impending warmer weather, the utilisation of marinas will peak during the summer months, so this timely announcement will look to assist marinas to minimise their environmental impact and engage with all parties who utilise marinas and their surrounds. The report estimated that the total direct economic value of Australian marinas was $1.16 billion or $3.6 million per marina.

Red Mud Stabilization Demonstration at MAL in Ajka

/EINPresswire.com/ Budapest, 25 July 2011 - ParaTech Hungary Kft. announced that their demonstration to stabilize red mud from any ph about the neutral range to a safe level of 7, was completely successful. The demonstration involved use of approximately 6 metric tons of red mud made available through a demonstration agreement with MAL.

ParaTech Hungary, Kft., a subsidiary of ParaTech Global, headquartered in the US Virgin Islands, used a Hungarian patented process to reset the red mud ph to 7; a ph level that is of no danger or harm to people. The company also announced that stabilized red mud has been successfully tested as an ingredient in both ceramic/cementious building products, substituting for clay/aggregate. Approval for its use as an ingredient in these products is being sought for the entire EU.

In addition, the company also reset the ph of the chemical liquid in the red mud to 7, turning it into a weak solution of sodium sulfate. They are awaiting approval of a Hungarian Environmental permit application to demonstrate another patented technology to split this chemical into two other chemicals that may be safely sold in the industrial chemical market. Following both processes, it is claimed there are no waste products remaining.

Dr. Richard Moore, CEO of ParaTech Global attached a statement saying..."We are grateful to Dr. Lajos Tolnay, Chairman of MAL, for his support through an agreement with our company to allow us the use of a sample of their red mud and space on their property to perform this demonstration. The introduction of our innovative technologies to the aluminum industry is not disruptive, but represents a vehicle by which to move the aluminum industry closer to full sustainability. Throughout the world more than 75 million tons of red mud is placed each year in wet and dry stacks fully open to the environment. This annual amount adds to the more than 1.5 billion tons that has already been placed.

He further stated that..."We also offer our thanks to Andras Santa of Veolia Water Solutions, their entire engineering staff and subcontractors for turning our basic design into a 30,000 ton per year or 1/10 scale red mud processing plant."

During the demonstration, an independent chemical testing service secured samples of all the material used and will perform impartial testing on same to support the claims of the company. The result of those tests is forthcoming.

Veolia Environmental Services continues to work with the community on getting recycling right

Veolia Environmental Services, one of Australia's largest waste management, recycling and industrial services provider launches a "Getting Wise about Waste" educational program.

Today, Veolia Environmental Services announced that in 2010 it recycled over 157,000 tonnes of materials from businesses and homes across Australia. The announcement comes just days before World Environment Day held on June 5th.

Veolia Environmental Services as a leader in the provision of waste management and recycling, is working closely with businesses to educate them on the value of business recycling, both from an economic and environmental viewpoint.

World Environment Day however, provides a timely reminder that more work needs to be done, and more educational support needs to be made available to ensure the long-term impacts of waste are minimised.

Veolia offers a vast range of waste and recycling services; recovering materials including paper, cardboard, metals and commingled glass and plastics. Veolia also processes and recovers potentially hazardous materials including electronic waste, batteries and liquid waste.

When working with Australian residents and businesses Veolia believes that recycling education and training has never been more important and together with the broad services offered, Veolia is working with the community on getting recycling right.

Veolia recently launched the "Getting Wise about Waste" educational program which incorporates a vast collection of materials to help people understand how to identify various waste streams and subsequently utilise the correct disposal method. Contamination of both general waste streams and recyclable materials is a very real hazard, contributing to not only environmental and safety risks, but resulting in a lot of recyclable materials being sent to landfill rather than recovered and re-used.

As part of the "Getting Wise about Waste" program informative signage, new RecyclePak bin labelling, educational brochures and flyers were all developed, to further aid the general community on how to recycle correctly. In July 2010, Veolia also launched a fully interactive learning web-portal about waste and recycling for commercial customers.

Have you ever wondered what happens after the police and CSIs are done with a crime scene or what to do when tragedy strikes? Mark Levi did, and one day he decided to learn all about it—first hand.

Veolia Environmental Services Launches Alerts System to Increase Engagement with the Local Community

Veolia Environmental Services, one of Australia's largest waste management, recycling and industrial services providers launched new website functionality in the form of SMS and Email alerts.

PYRMONT, NSW - For more than 40 years Veolia has been implementing innovative, effective and sustainable waste solutions across Australia. In an effort to demonstrate accountability and transparency about the company and its performance, the recycling and facilities management industry leader has enhanced its website with a wealth of community engaging features.

The purpose of these additional communications tools will allow for real-time information to be disseminated to its customers and the greater community where Veolia operates. As Veolia Environmental Services operates at over 100 locations within Australia, and provides services to over 60,000 clients, Veolia needs to be at the forefront of extensive community engagement.

The launch of the SMS and Email alerts system will be provided in the first instance to the communities of Tarago, Goulburn and Bungendore, and be utilised to alert local residents, and authorities of any changes to operations at Veolia's Woodlawn Bioreactor which may have any impact on the local region.

The Woodlawn Bioreactor is located 250kms south of Sydney, near Goulburn, and accepts over 500,000 tonnes of solid waste from the Sydney Metropolitan Region. The waste sent to this facility is then used to generate electricity, through the utilisation of the methane generated from the decomposing waste. Since commencing operations in 2005, the Woodlawn Bioreactor has accepted over 2 million tonnes of waste from Sydney; from July 2009 to June 2010, the site generated 14,331 MWh of renewable energy, which is enough electricity to power approximately 1,800 homes for a year.
Veolia is currently seeking approval from the NSW Government to increase the maximum assessed input rate of the Woodlawn Bioreactor from 500,000 tonnes of waste per year to 1.13 million tonnes of waste per year. As such, it is imperative that Veolia work closely with the local communities, and keep them informed of every step of this application process.

The availability of an email and SMS communications system will allow customers, and the community to subscribe and be sent information which could relate to changes to operational hours, changes to operational capacity, changes to movements of vehicles in and around key locations, invitations to events and open-days at Veolia facilities and general updates on what Veolia is doing to lessen its environmental impacts and work with the local community.

Veolia will soon make these tools available to all customers, to ensure it is engaging in a more interactive and timely manner with the local communities.
