D'Aoust and Breese just published the non-fiction "God's Steed- Key to World Peace" (Lulu 2011). The Chauvet Pegasus is featured on the book's cover. Like Tom Hanks in the fictional "Angels and Demons", they are the real life 'symbologists' who have discovered this ancient point from which all religion and philosophy have descended- and will culminate. "Cave of Forgotten Dreams" by Werner Herzog lets us see this earliest cave art. Some viewers report visions after seeing the movie.

New Logging Methods Protect Jaguars

Dec. 8, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ - One of the topics of the U.N. climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, centered on a new approach to logging in Mexican jungles that is protecting jaguars and other endangered species.

Using a new system referred to as community forest management, land ownership is given to local villagers so that they harvest timber more conscientiously and damage the forest less than industrial loggers.

In the attempt to create sustainable forestry, part of the climate talks were aimed at creating incentive for native foresters to log carefully since rampant deforestation releases dangerous amounts of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

Mexico has lost 383,00 acres to deforestation in the last five years, according to Mexico's forestry monitor, Comision Nacional Forestal.

Ocean Acidification Threatens Food Security

Dec. 8, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ - The increasing acidification of the seas could harm fishery production and has already started the most dramatic shift in ocean chemistry in 65 million years, according to a U.N. report.

According to the report, such sea life as mussels, lobsters and shrimp could become endangered because the acidification will make it more difficult for them to form protective shells. It could also damage coral reefs, which are the breeding grounds for many ocean organisms.

The scientific conclusions of the U.N. report says the changes threaten food security, adding to the ongoing problems of overfishing and pollution. About 25 percent of the world's greenhouse gases are absorbed by the seas, creating excessive carbonic acid and interfering with ocean life.

Nearly a billion people worldwide rely on fish as their main source of protein.

Administration Gives Billions of Stimulus Dollars to Polluters

Nov 30, 2010 /EIN Presswire/-- The Obama administration gave out approximately $2 billion in stimulus money to some of the country's biggest polluters in the hopes of creating jobs, according to a recent investigation from the Center for Public Integrity.

The violating companies were also granted more than 179,000 exemptions from environmental oversight, freeing their practices from evaluation under the National Environmental Policy Act.

Officials did not take into account the companies' pollution histories, saying that creating jobs was the main prerogative and that past environmental misdeeds should not disqualify companies from federal contracts.

The stimulus dollars are meant to fund projects relating to clean energy including an electrical-grid upgrade in Kansas, a wind farm project in Texas and clean biofuel project in Delaware.

The stimulus grants went to three dozen companies to the ire of environmentalists who feel these companies have done nothing to earn the government's trust or dollars.

Alaska Protects Polar Bear Habitats

Nov 30, 2010/EIN Presswire/-- More than 187,000 square miles along the northern coast of Alaska were declared a critical habitat for polar bears.

This was the result of a settlement in an continuing lawsuit of the Center for Biological Diversity, the Natural Resources Defense Council and Greenpeace against the Department of the Interior.

The new designation falls under the Endangered Species Act and aims to protect lands and waters that are crucial for polar bear survival from industrial development.

Animal rights groups are also pressuring the Department of the Interior to change its categorization of polar bears from "threatened" to the more serious "endangered" so that the Endangered Species Act can be used to reduce greenhouse emissions.

The Department of the Interior issued a special ruling in 2008 stating that greenhouse emissions are exempt from regulation in polar bear territories. The Center for Biological Diversity is still in the process of challenging this ruling.

Carbon dioxide pollutions dropped last year for the first time in a decade as manufacturing plants closed and people drove and flew less.

The United States Energy Department said that emissions dropped 7 percent in 2009 due to the slowing economy, improved energy efficiency and cleaner energy. Worldwide, there was a release of 34 billion tons of carbon dioxide, which is a 453-million-ton drop from the previous year.

The past decade also saw a shift in which countries were producing carbon dioxide as developing nations continue to use energy inefficiently. Two decades ago, the developed world produced 65 percent of the world's carbon dioxide but now only produces 43 percent as the developing world has more than doubled their emissions.

UN: Climate Outlook Gloomy

Nov 29, 2010 /EIN Presswire/-- Dangerous climate change is inevitable, according to a recent assessment by the United Nations Environment Program.

Despite the pledges of various nations to cut or limit their greenhouse emissions, the world still falls far short of what it needs to prevent the climb in average global temperatures.

This warning is a gloomy prelude to an environmental conference in Cancun, Mexico, which is a follow-up meeting to the unsuccessful Copenhagen conference last year. At Copenhagen, nations failed to come to a legally binding agreement on cutting their emissions of carbon dioxide.

Approximately 80 countries, including the United States and China, have made their own pledges since the Copenhagen conference, but the United Nation Environment Program calculates that even if these promises are kept, there will still be a large gap between the efforts being made and what is actually needed to affect change.

Environmental groups hope the conference in Cancun could successfully get nations to increase their current pledges.

Group: Pakistan Floods Just the Beginning for Massive Natural Disasters

In its new report, the group says climate change is leading to a growing number of natural disasters. It estimates that nearly 200 million people will be displaced by natural disasters and climate change by the year 2050, and that world's poorest regions will be the most impacted.

The president of Refugees International, Dan Glickman, referred to the major floods in Pakistan as a wake-up call to the threats of climate change. He urges governments to plan now for natural disasters and the displacement they cause.

The summer floods in Pakistan put one-fifth of the country under water and affected more than 20 million people. The damage was especially extensive since the disaster caught the government by surprise, and it was unable to respond timely and effectively.
