NW Natural Elects New Board Chairman

The Board of Directors of Northwest Natural Gas Company, dba, NW Natural (NYSE: NWN), today announced at the company's annual shareholder meeting the election of Tod R. Hamachek as board chairman. Hamachek will replace Russell F. Tromley who is retiring after serving as chair since 2008 and as a member of the board since 1994.

NW Natural board also approves to extend share repurchasing program
Additionally, NW Natural's board of directors today extended the company's share repurchase program effective through May 31, 2013. The repurchase program, first authorized in 2000, authorizes the company to purchase up to $100 million in value and up to 2.8 million shares of the company's common stock. Since the program's inception, the company has repurchased 2.1 million shares of common stock at a total cost of $83.3 million.

The Green Building Initiative Successfully Completes ANSI Audit

Procedures Approved for the Development and Maintenance of Green Building Standards

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) recently received notification that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) had completed review and approval of the GBI's revised process for development and maintenance of consensus standards for environmentally preferable design, construction and upkeep of buildings.

The GBI is a nonprofit organization that became an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developing Organization (SDO) in 2005, breaking new ground for the industry by being the first green building organization to publish an ANSI-Accredited Standard for commercial green building.

Officially named "ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings," this standard represents one of the most scientifically advanced and robust green building rating systems for the new construction or major renovation of commercial buildings in the U.S. It takes a holistic approach to green building with seven areas of assessment: Project Management, Site, Water, Energy, Emissions, Indoor Environment and Resources.

Battelle Engineers Work on Fix at Chernobyl

Construction of Enormous Cover for Ruined No. 4 Reactor Began on 26th Anniversary of Disaster, Should Be Completed in 2015

When reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded in the early morning hours of April 26, 1986, a disaster of mammoth proportions unfolded. Radioactive material blew as high as six miles and covered more than 60,000 square miles. A quarter century later, the first structure built to enclose the reactor needs to be replaced.

That's where a consortium including Battelle comes in. With a reputation for excellence in confronting large, complex scientific and engineering challenges, Battelle scientists and engineers and colleagues from Bechtel International Systems Inc. and other companies have begun the most important part of the recovery process. Twenty-six years to the day -- April 26 -- after the disaster occurred, construction of a moveable building that weighs as much as three Eiffel Towers began. Battelle employees from corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio along with staff from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash., are working on the project.

It's part of the EUR 1.5 billion Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP), the master directive funded by donations from more than 30 nations to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, which is administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The Bank held an open international tender in 1997 for a project management unit to provide technical and fiduciary oversight for SIP works. It was won by a consortium of Battelle, Bechtel and Electricité de France (EDF withdrew from the consortium in 2010).

The SIP's confinement building is an enormous steel shelter called the New Safe Confinement (NSC), and it will help mitigate the radioactivity for the next century while disassembly and cleanup activities are conducted inside. Although the SIP consists of 22 tasks, the largest is construction of the NSC, an arch-shaped steel structure that is being built distant from the current Object Shelter to avoid radiation exposure of construction workers. Once construction of the arch is complete, the team will slide the NSC -- 250 meters wide, 150 meters long, 100 meters tall, built from one-meter diameter tubular steel and big enough to enclose the Statue of Liberty -- over the older Object Shelter. The project should be complete in 2015.

Many of the other 21 SIP tasks are complete, or nearly complete, including providing site infrastructure and conceptual design of the NSC (which was performed by Bechtel-Battelle-EDF 2002-2003 and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2004). A contract for final design and construction of NSC was awarded in 2007 to the joint venture company known as Novarka. Novarka consists of the two large construction companies, Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Bouygues Travaux Publics (both French). The arch's steel is being fabricated in Italy.

Battelle's history of working on huge projects extends back to its beginning in 1929. Battelle scientists performed work for the United States government in developing nuclear energy 70 years ago. Today Battelle has a significant management role in six of the U.S. Department of Energy's premier national laboratories -- including important nuclear work performed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Idaho National Laboratory.

The SIP was developed in 1996 as a means to transform the Chernobyl Object Shelter to an environmentally safe condition. Development of SIP was led by Carol Kessler, then at the U.S. Department of State and later a Battelle employee in the Center for Nonproliferation.

About 300 meters west of the current Object Shelter, workers begin construction of the new cover. Because the ground is contaminated, the area has been covered by new concrete to protect the workers. The massive new steel building will be moved to cover the old reactor after construction is completed.

At EPA Hearing, Nurses Say Cutting Greenhouse Gases Will Improve Nation's Health

HCWH Nurse Representatives Link GHG With Chronic Disease, Weather-Related Illness

Two nurses representing Health Care Without Harm will testify today at hearings in Washington, DC, and Chicago, IL, in support of the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rules limiting greenhouse gases from new coal-fired power plants. The hearings are a chance for the public to express their views on the rules. The nurses will focus their testimony on the health benefits of reducing greenhouse gases.

"These proposed rules will greatly reduce pollutants that are linked to health issues such as asthma, heat stroke, heart disease and respiratory illnesses," said Laura Anderko, RN, PHD, Robert and Kathleen Scanlon Endowed Chair in Values Based Health Care, Georgetown University, who will testify in Washington, DC. "We commend the EPA for taking this step to protect the nation's health."

Greenhouse gases warm the atmosphere, and are associated with heat waves and extreme weather events, both of which are increasing in the United States. Greenhouse gases also contribute to the formation of ozone, the leading component of smog, which is known to cause inflammation in the respiratory tract and reduced lung function. In fact, high ozone levels that are responsible for health warnings during high air quality index (AQI) days, when patients with asthma, children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart illnesses are cautioned to stay indoors.

"Asthma is the leading cause of missed school days among children," said Pamela Ortner, MS, RN, CHPN, a Michigan Environmental Health Nurse Advocate with Health Care Without Harm, who will represent HCWH at the Chicago hearing. "There is strong evidence of a direct link between poor air quality and emergency visits and hospitalization of asthmatic children. These proposed rules will reduce emissions from the industry that is the single largest source of air pollution in the United States, and that is an important step to protect the health of our most vulnerable populations."

The United States is in the midst of an epidemic of chronic disease, which consumes 3 of every $4 spent on health care. In its report "The Economic Affliction of Asthma and Risks of Blocking Air Pollution Safeguards," issued in 2011, Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) concluded that the already staggering human and financial toll of asthma in the U.S. is likely to increase if Congress acts to stop important updates to the Clean Air Act. Asthma alone costs the nation more than $53 billion per year, according to the report.

"Our nation is spending more than $1.3 trillion a year on chronic illness, much of which is linked to pollution," stated Dr. Anderko. "These costs are unsustainable, and we need to use all efforts available to reduce pollution to improve public health."

Health Care Without Harm has asked its membership to submit comments to the EPA on these new rules. The agency has extended the comment period to June 25, 2012.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average price of diesel fuel in the U.S. hit $4.14 per gallon last April, the highest amount since August of 2008. Tip #1 - Obey the Speed Limit

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, vehicles that honor the speed limit maintain a higher miles per gallon ratio. US Department of Energy Conducts 24 Hour Testing of STWA Applied Oil Technology 1.2V

US DOE Testing Generates Relevant Data for STWA's Crude Oil Viscosity Reduction System

STWA, Inc. (OTCBB: ZERO) ("STWA" or the "Company"), a developer of applied solutions for oil and fuel delivery systems in the multi-billion dollar oil pipeline and diesel engine markets, announced today that the United States Department of Energy RMOTC has conducted successful 24-hour testing of the Company's Applied Oil Technology AOT 1.2V at its test facility in Wyoming.

The following statements are taken verbatim from the US DOE RMOTC test report:

"In 2011, the AOT device was installed on a flow loop located at the RMOTC field test site in NPR-3. The flow loop -- a 4.4 mile, 6 inch, schedule 80 metal buried pipeline -- was modified specifically to support this viscosity reduction test. RMOTC validated overall system integrity after AOT installation, and filled the loop with field-produced API 34° oil to facilitate testing. The initial phase of testing in 2011 is detailed within "STWA Final Report: Viscosity Reduction Test" dated October 19, 2011, subsequent testing is detailed within "STWA, Inc Viscosity Reduction Technology" dated April 04, 2012.

The AOT device was removed in April 2012 and reworked to include a new, vertically-oriented, electrically-isolated chassis/skid design. The reworked device, referred to as the AOT 1.2V, was reinstalled on the test loop in May 2012. RMOTC again validated overall system integrity after the AOT 1.2V installation, and filled the loop with field-produced API 34° oil to facilitate this second phase of testing. The test was conducted for 24 consecutive hours, beginning at 12noon May 02, 2012 and concluding at 12noon May 03, 2012.

With the AOT device engaged, the viscosity of the oil was reduced by up to 56.12% compared to untreated oil at the same temperature. The viscosity was reduced to 51.8cP from 118.060cP at the 04:00am measurement. Overall reduced viscosity low was 47.8cP at 10:30pm 05/02/2012.

During the 24 hour test, the viscosity of the untreated oil would increase as the temperature decreased throughout the night. The viscosity of the untreated oil reached an overall high of 118.06cP at 04:00am 05/03/2012. The AOT treated viscosity of the oil at that time was 51.8cP, a 56.12% reduction in viscosity. The AOT treated oil demonstrated a suppressed viscosity throughout the night, regardless of temperature reduction.

Pump power requirements were reduced throughout the test, reaching an overall maximum reduction of -56.12%, reducing from an untreated oil power requirement of 36.0kW to 15.8kW at 04:00am 05/03/2012. Untreated oil power requirements were increased throughout the test, reaching an overall high of +126.09%, increasing from a baseline of 15.9kW to 36.0kW at 04:00am 05/03/2012.

When the AOT was disengaged, viscosity and pressure were observed to revert slowly back to baseline, returning to baseline values after approximately 11hours before the temperature viscosity reduction effect supplanted the AOT viscosity reduction effect.

Test results indicate that the viscosity reduction device operated successfully and that the AOT 1.2V prototype delivers improved performance over the original AOT prototype tested in October 2011 and again in March 2012. Pipeline line-loss and pump motor power consumption were reduced for a given flow rate during the observed test. The device may hold potential for energy savings and increased pipeline flow rates for the oil production and transportation industry."

This research was co-funded by STWA, Inc. and the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI). Work was directed by Clarke Turner, Brian Haight, Wes Lintz, Wes Riesland, George Hughes, and Jeanette Buelt.

Tesla is reinventing the car-buying experience with its unique retail model. enterprise with assets in north-western Kazakhstan today communicates
its financial results for the period from 1 January to 31 March 2012 in
addition to providing an update on its operations.


HIGHLIGHTS FROM A RECORD FIRST QUARTER

* Production:

  o More than five-fold YoY increase to 3,053,210 boe total

  o Average Q1 2012 daily production of 33,552 boepd

  o Average April 2012 daily production of 37,237 boepd

Revenue, EBITDA and Net Income

Revenue from sales of crude oil, stabilised condensate, LPG and dry gas
stood at US$163.4 million. EBITDA stood at US$110.9 million. The EBITDA
margin increased to 67.9% from 54.7% during the same period, reflecting
the fixed nature of a significant portion of Zhaikmunai's costs. Net
income for the period increased over four-fold to US$48.4 million.

Cost of Sales

Cost of sales increased by US$30.2 million, or 212.5%, to US$44.4
million compared to US$14.2 million for the same period in 2011. This
increase was due to a rise in depreciation and maintenance expenses
linked to GTF operations, which did not begin until Q2 2011.
Depreciation expenses rose 489.0% to US$21.9 million and maintenance
expenses rose 195.8% to US$8.6 million.

Cash

Zhaikmunai ended the first quarter of 2012 with US$144.3 million in
cash and cash equivalents, of which US$3.2 million was restricted cash.
This represents a US$15.8 million increase, or 12.3%, compared to the
end of the 2011 financial year.

Total Production Increase

Zhaikmunai increased its total production over five times between the
first quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012. Total production
increased to 3,053,210 boe from 604,746 boe or 404.9%, with an average
daily production of 33,552 boepd from 6,719, or 399.3%. Total
production has since further increased to an average of 37,237 boepd in
April 2012.

Production Ramp-Up

The average production level is expected to further increase with the
imminent coupling of gas condensate Well #218, the planned coupling of
two further crude oil wells (Well #116 and Well #67) as well as through
the pursuit of its yield optimisation programme in the course of 2012.

Drilling Programme

As of 31 March 2012, 12 wells were producing oil from the Tournaisian
reservoir and 8 wells were producing gas condensate from the
Ardatovski, Biski/Afoninski and Southern Tournaisian reservoirs.
Zhaikmunai's drilling plans for 2012 include drilling of a total of 11
new wells of which two new exploration / appraisal wells and 9
production wells.
