Dentist Admits Dumping Needles That Washed Up on Beach
March 16, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ In the summer of 2008, nearly 250 dental needles washed up on a beach in New Jersey. A dentist from Wynnewood, Pa., has pleaded guilty to dumping those needles and other medical waste from his boat.
Thomas McFarland agreed to pay $100,000 for the misdeed but avoided jail time. On Aug. 22, 2008, McFarland dumped the dental needles, capsules used to hold dental filling material and other medical waste into the water, and the waste began washing up in the beach the next day. The subsequent cleanup of the beach cost more than $70,000.
