BYD Backs Off Plan to Mass Produce by Mid-2010

March 16, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ One of the trendsetters in the electric car industry, Chinese automaker BYD Co. has backed away from plans to mass produce electric cars by the middle of 2010 in its home country.

Bloomberg reports that BYD will make 100 E6 electric cars that will be used as taxis in the company's home city of Shenzhen, but further development will depend on the success of the taxi program.

BYD has become one of the hottest auto manufacturers in China. The company's F3 sedan is one of the best-selling autos in China, and BYD's net profit more than tripled from the previous year.
