US Supreme Court Allows Corporations Direct Influence on Policy Issues
January 22, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ The US Supreme Court on Thursday voted to abolish spending limits on political campaigns, giving corporations and unions direct influence on political advertising for policy issues.
The court's decision, which acknowledged that corporations have the same First Amendment rights as individuals, ends the ban on direct corporate campaign spending on issues.
Sen. Russell Feingold, the co-author of the current campaign spending limits law, isn't optimistic about the implications of the verdict. "Corporations have huge war chests that far exceed current spending in our political system," he said.
