CDC and Partners Host International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases

Journalists are invited to attend and cover the 2012 International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases (ICEID) in Atlanta. One of the world’s premier infectious disease conferences, ICEID brings together thousands of public health professionals to explore issues in surveillance, research, epidemiology and prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, both in the United States and abroad.

The meeting is organized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Society for Microbiology, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, the Association of Public Health Laboratories and the World Health Organization.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION

The conference brings together public health professionals to encourage the exchange of scientific and public health information on global emerging and re-emerging infectious disease issues.  The program will include plenary and panel sessions with invited speakers as well as oral and poster presentations on emerging infections.

Major subjects to be covered include:

  • Food processing and infectious disease
  • Impact of war, climate change, and urbanization on infectious diseases
  • Elimination of healthcare-associated infections
  • The role of wildlife in emerging diseases
  •  Vaccines and new vaccine development
  • Dengue prevention and control
  • Antibiotic stewardship and control of antibiotic resistance
  • Global trends in foodborne illness
  • Emerging plant diseases and food security
  • Emerging fungal diseases
