University of Calgary: Quiet Eye unlocks elite police shooting techniques
University of Calgary researcher Joan Vickers is internationally known for discovering the Quiet Eye.
Defined as the precise location where an individual fixes their gaze before executing a critical movement, the Quiet Eye has been studied in many sports and professional activities including hockey, biathlon, surgery and now police shooting.
Vickers' recently published research, conducted with renowned police psychologist Dr. Bill Lewinski, has demonstrated that elite shooters under extreme pressure consistently make the best decisions in life or death situations in large part because of where they focus their eyes and attention.
Vickers has been working with the Calgary Police Service to bring her latest research to Calgary's cutting-edge, police training program.
