An Oklahoma teen has filed a lawsuit against the retailer for alleged religious discrimination. Press Release Service – Wired PR News – An Oklahoma teen has filed a lawsuit against clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch, claiming she was denied a job due to her religious beliefs. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the 17 year-old, who is Muslim, stated she was told by a manager in a clothing store in a Tulsa mall that she did not meet the criteria of the retailer’s look policy because she wore an hijab. EEOC senior trial attorney Michelle Robertson, is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “"It is unlawful for employers to treat applicants or workers differently based on their religious beliefs or practices in any aspect of employment, including recruitment, hiring and job assignments.” As noted by the AP, the lawsuit seeks undisclosed monetary as well as non-monetary damages.
