/EINPresswire.com/ JMP is already an established event in the worldwide mining and petroleum business calendar, it has been organised on a biannual basis since 2005, and the 2011 edition of the event will be the 4th occurrence of the event. JMP 2009, featured over 600 delegates, 60 exhibiting companies and over 50 presentations were delivered. The event was held under the High Patronage of His Excellency, the President of Mali and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

The first three days of JMP 2011, will consist of conference sessions, workshops, a project finance room and a trade exhibition. On the fourth day of JMP 2011, we have arranged technical visits for the participants to visit some of Mali's major mining operations. The main theme of this year JMP is "Mali: Sustainably diversifying its mineral resources"

Mali is well known as one of Africa's foremost gold producers (currently ranked 3rd in Africa with expected production to rise to 56 tonnes in 2011, thanks to new producing mines at Kodieran and Gounkoto).

However the next few years should see encouraging performances in the extraction of other mineral resources.

• A new cement factory will the capacity of 1,200,000 tonnes per annum is expected to start work in 2011, as well as a second one to be installed at Hombori.
• Mali will become an iron ore producer for the first time in 2011, with the exploitation of the Tienfala permit.
• Mali also has rich manganese prospects, which are estimated to be 20T (Gao) and are ready to be mined.
• A Malian phosphate producer is aiming at a 200,000 tpa production by 2012 at the Tamaguilelt deposit.
• This year will also see the by the first drilling for oil and gas by a major international E&P company
• Bauxite reserves are estimated at 1.2 million tonnes and could be exploited in the near future
• Mali also has potential for other mineral resources such as lithium, uranium, diamonds, kaolin and gemstones.

At the same time Mali is making efforts to sustainable diversify its mineral resources, with programs aimed to sustainably benefit, its population, economy and environment. Some of these projects include: the review and update of the Mining Code, a proposed regional mining school to be built and the establishment of organisations such as la Cellule d'appui a la de decentralisation et a la déconcentration des mines (CADD)
