U.S. Embassy Partners with Local NGO to Promote Peace through Soccer

From October 15 to 23, 2017, hundreds of boys and girls aged 12 to 15 participated in a soccer tournament in Tchollire, headquarter of the Mayo Rey Division in the North Region. Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon and implemented by Prince Mabengue’s El-Zoe Foundation, the “Kick4Peace” Soccer tournament aimed at sensitizing young Cameroonians against the dangers of violence and extremism, and to encourage them to always seek for peaceful means to resolve any conflict they may have with their friends, neighbors, or relatives. Prince Mabengue Junior, a FIFA-licensed match agent and  El-Zoe Foundation CEO, drilled participants on the importance of education and the values of hard work and collaboration. At the end of the tournament, each participant received a school kit as an incentive to work harder in school. The Tchollire event is the first of a series of three soccer clinics funded by the U.S. Embassy that El Zoe foundation will implement in the three northern regions of Cameroon.
