Children’s Author Irene Dolnick to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

I felt compelled to create a series that would develop children's desire to read and learn at the same time.”
— Irene Dolnick

EL PASO, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- There exists a perception that writing children’s books is easy because the words and stories are simple, but the truth is it’s actually much more difficult than even writing a novel. A children's author must take into consideration the development of the child they are writing for.

Irene Dolnick is the author of the Kurt, Gert, Jazmine and Bagel series of children’s books. A former teacher of reading and literacy, Irene found inspiration in her dogs to write her first book.

“I felt compelled to create a series that would develop children's desire to read and learn at the same time,” says Irene. “There is only one series about dogs with exciting adventures for a child who finds reading difficult. I wanted to give children a high-quality choice rather than having to read from a selection of hundreds of the same old books.”

Irene says 25-30% of students she sees have difficulties that impair their reading or writing. We still have not resolved the problem of student illiteracy. Irene’s books introduce different word families discussed in classrooms. She developed a strategy to group similar word families, segment-blend pronunciations and color code these words.

“The book can determine how much reading experience a student needs or lacks,” says Irene. “Which words children can read and should read to improve their reading helps me decide which words I should choose when I write.”

Irene’s second book in the series, Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel and their Train Station Adventure was published in late 2015. The third book, Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel: A Halloween Nightmare was published in September. And Irene is currently at work on a fourth book.

CUTV News Radio will feature Irene Dolnick in an interview with Jim Masters on November 2nd at 12pm EDT and and November 9th at 12pm EDT.
