CABO SAN LUCAS, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO, October 4, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- October 03/2017, Cabo San Lucas—With October already here, there is one thing that the anglers are getting keyed up about—the upcoming fishing tournaments in Los Cabos! The place has been hosting these events since as early as the good old eighties, and, like wine, they have only grown to be better than the years past.
These fishing tournaments have a rich history. Originally starting out as a simple competition among the local crews for catching the biggest game, these contests slowly grew to be the epic, much-awaited tournaments that they are today. This tournament season also brought fame and acknowledgement to the remarkable waters of Los Cabos, which boasts some of the best game fish all around the globe.
For the people wondering about this year’s line-up, The Los Cabos Billfish (Oct 15 – Oct 19), Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore (Oct 20 - Oct 21), and the Bisbee’s Black and Blue (Oct 25 – Oct 27) are set to be held this month.
The winnings? An astounding prize offering of $4,735,900!
Both sportsfishing veterans and enthusiastic anglers can’t wait for the back-to-back events—and the excitement that comes with it—to commence. Many of the activities in these three events are open to the public, allowing anyone to get a special peek into the exciting world of Los Cabos sportsfishing.
The events follow the traditional procession—a flare gun signals the start of the fishing day.
The blend of professional and amateur-yet-enthusiastic crews throngs the waters as they compete for the biggest game. By afternoon, the crews start to return with their catches and have them weighed on the weigh stations. They take pictures with their game and have fun interacting with the other teams.
The weight scales of the three tournaments are placed at different spots. The weight scale of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament is placed near the entrance f the harbor on the Malecón. The one for the Bisbees Tournaments is situated right in the middle at Puerto Paraiso Mall. Because the weight scales are the locations with the most excitement and activity, the organizers always make sure that the environment is contagiously enthusiastic.
With staff members throwing trinkets and beads to the cheering crowd and blaring music setting the lively atmosphere, it is impossible not to get hyped up in the energetic atmosphere.
While all the three events have the same goal—providing hefty prizes to the teams who catch the biggest game fish and a fun time for everyone involved—there are some differences in the rules for each event. The team size for all events is limited to six anglers which includes the mate and captain. The minimum acceptable game weight is 300 pounds for both black and blue marlin.
The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament will begin the series of the exciting events on the 15th of this month. The weigh station will be set up at the Marina Fundadores. The registration will open from October 15th at the Playa Grande Resort Beachside Terrace and will close on the 18th at 4:30 p.m. In this tournament, the entry fee in all categories is $20,000. Moreover, the game fish includes dorado, striped marlin, sailfish, spearfish, wahoo and yellowfin tuna.
The Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore follows soon after the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament. The weight stations will be set at the Puerto Paraiso Mall, and the registration begins on the 19th of October.
This event had started off as a practice tournament which set the stage for the Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament, but the popularity of sportsfishing helped it evolve into a standalone tournament with equally excited and competitive teams and audiences. In 2016 only, more than a hundred teams competed for the prize money of about $773,000, reiterating the existence of its huge following.
In Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore, there is no cap to the number of team members which can be registered. The minimum weight limit for both black and blue marlin and other billfish is the same as that of the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, with the exception of yellowfin tuna (minimum weight 40 pounds) and dorado (minimum weight 30 pounds). The entry fee for this tournament is only $12,500—the most affordable of the three events.
The winners will be acknowledged at a luxurious Awards Celebration at Maria Corona on the night of the 21st. The celebration will be open to only the guests and participants.
The grand finale of this eventful series of sportsfishing competitions, the Bisbee’s Black and Blue mainly focuses on the black and blue marlin (as the name suggests), but does offer special prizes for the other categories of billfish.
The Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament is arguably the most exciting of them all, having exceeded the million-dollar mark in winnings more than a dozen times.
This is why, every year, the audiences wait expectantly to see who gets the title of the “Bisbee Millionaire Club”. The fee for this year is $71,500, with the registration starting at Puerto Paraiso Mall from the 24th from 2-6 p.m. The opening ceremonies are filled with all the flair and fanfare that anyone could wish for, and is open to the public.
Who will take the crown of being this year’s addition to the Bisbee Millionaire Club? Will the underdogs take the lead by surprising everyone with their tactics or will the aces wow the crowd with their game? If you’re in Los Cabos this month, you shouldn’t miss out on the happenings. Participate if you’re an angler, or just be a part of the audience for the best tournaments of the year!
