TechShop San Jose Celebrates its Grand Re-Opening in Downtown San Jose

DIY makerspace to empower and enable innovation in San Jose community

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TechShop, Inc., the world’s first and largest network of open access, do-it-yourself workshops and fabrication studios, will celebrate the official grand re-opening of its downtown San Jose location on Saturday, July 29th.

Kicking off the celebration in true maker style, Mayor Sam Liccardo will cut a special steel ribbon with a plasma torch at 11:00AM. Following the ribbon cutting, TechShop CEO Dan Woods and Danny Harris of the Knight Foundation will speak to the future of innovation in San Jose. TechShop will then host immersive facility tours, equipment demos, and hands-on activities. Several TechShop San Jose members will be joining the Saturday event, including local businesses and entrepreneurs.

"We are thrilled to celebrate the grand re-opening of TechShop San Jose," said Dan Woods. "When we first opened TechShop in San Jose six years ago, we recognized the community’s commitment to innovation, entrepreneurial growth, and advanced manufacturing. We are proud to partner with the Mayor's office, the Knight Foundation, SIATech, and San Jose State University to help keep this community resource in the downtown corridor."

TechShop San Jose originally opened in 2011 near the San Jose State University Campus. After the expiration of the original lease, TechShop conducted an extensive search for a site to relocate to, and through support of local partners was able to stay in downtown San Jose. TechShop San Jose is now located at 38 S. 2nd street.

“Congratulations to TechShop on the opening of its creative flagship workshop studio. We look forward to seeing entrepreneurs, students, machine-shop enthusiasts, and industrial artists in Downtown San Jose,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “We thank Saratoga Capital and the Knight Foundation for their efforts to keep TechShop downtown.”
