Fifth “Bolshoi” Festival of Russian Music is launched in Mećavnik
The fifth “Bolshoi” Festival of Russian Music will take place in the ethnic village of Mećavnik (Mokra Gora National Park, Serbia) on 13 to 15 July 2017. Founded in 2013 by Director Emir Kusturica, the festival has been held with the support of Gazprom Neft since its inception.
The “Bolshoi” Festival supports and promotes the creative development of talented young musicians from Serbia, Republika Srpska and Russia. One of the key themes of the festival is the continuity and interconnection of musical traditions.
More than 60 participants will be competing for the main prizes in the 2017 festival — the Gold, Silver and Bronze Matryoshkas, in two age groups, of
Winners will be determined by an authoritative jury, which will include Professor Zoran Komadina and renowned pianist and People’s Artist of Russia, Yuri Rozum.
Guests at the festival will include cellist Justus Grimm, violinist Tatyana Samouil, and mezzo-soprano Milijana Nikolic. Virtuoso violinist Roman Simovich, leader of the famous London Symphony Orchestra, has prepared a world premiere — a performance of a piano quintet created specifically for inclusion in the festival.
Famous musicians will also be holding masterclasses for talented young people from Russia and Serbia, with a “Dialogue of Talents” being held for the first time outside of the festival and involving participants from Serbia, Belarus and Russia, all of whom will be performing specially prepared musical compositions.
The Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra — comprising experienced performers and students of Serbia musical academies — will, for the third time, be preforming on the festival stage, brought together through the musical mastery of conductor Srbolyub Dinich.
