TECHNOLOGY CEO ANDY MILLER CONTINUES CHARITABLE GIVING CAMPAIGN BY DONATING TO THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

Andrew Miller’s personal “Seven for Seven” giving campaign seeks to motivate others to support the important work being done by local charitable organizations

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, May 22, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- SAN FRANCISCO – Former Polycom, Inc. CEO Andy M. Miller announced today that he is continuing his effort to increase support for under-recognized charitable organizations by making a $3,000 donation to the Greater Bay Area Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). His donation will provide a college scholarship to the winner of this year’s Students of the Year campaign, in which local high school teams raised funds for cancer research on behalf of LLS.
Miller is contributing an initial amount of $25,000 to seven local non-profit groups in seven days as part of a “Seven for Seven” personal giving campaign to boost support for local charities. He launched the initiative yesterday by donating $3,000 to the Javistrong54 Foundation – which is raising money to help with the medical expenses of paralyzed Danville, Calif., student-athlete Jake Javier.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is dedicated to finding a cure for blood cancers – including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma – as well as improving the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS not only funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world, it sponsors patient and family education and support programs in the Bay Area, and coordinates fundraising events like the annual Students of the Year, and Man & Woman of the Year campaigns.
“Even though survival rates for some blood cancers have improved significantly – thanks partly to the more than $1 billion in research LLS has funded since its inception – much work remains to be done,” says Miller, who has served as CEO of Polycom and Tandberg and in other senior positions for companies including Cisco, IPC Systems and Monster Worldwide. “Leukemia is one of the most common childhood cancers, and I believe we need to redouble our efforts to find a cure for this devastating disease – and all the other forms of blood cancer that continue to affect so many of our families.”
Allison Stark, Senior Campaign Director for LLS Greater Bay Area Chapter, thanks Miller for calling attention to the continuing need for blood cancer research. “We really appreciate Andy’s efforts on behalf of the Greater Bay Area Chapter, and the 2017 Students of the Year candidates,” she says. Ben Shapiro, Pivot Sports Marketing CEO, 2017 Man of the Year candidate and former Golden State Warriors CMO, is fundraising on behalf of LLS to fund research for acute myeloid lymphoma (AML). Ben, who lost his father to this rare but aggressive from of leukemia in March after a five year battle, knows that future of cancer research is at stake. “It’s important that people realize we all have the ability to make an immediate impact on cancer research and finding cures. It takes leaders in our community stepping up to the plate and owning the responsibility to support organizations like LLS who are making impacts on patients lives and the future of cancer research,” he’s says. “I commend Andy for his willingness to step up and help support AML research, as well funding a scholarship that is teaching these students about philanthropy and taking action for something that is bigger than all of us.”
Andy Miller has more than two decades of executive experience in industry leading companies including Polycom, IPC, Tandberg and Cisco. As a senior operating executive, he excelled in focusing on strategic growth areas, leading global expansion, and driving improved profitability. As a director, he collaborated on successful enterprise communications IPOs including Gigamon (GIMO).
In addition to guest lecturing at UCLA, USC and Stanford, Andy has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos and has given keynote addresses at Microsoft’s Worldwide Mobile Congress and the Aspen Ideas Festival.
