RENO, NV, UNITED STATES, May 18, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- (Sparks, Nev.) – Great Basin Brewing Co., headquartered in Sparks, Nev., has been recognized with two awards at the 2017 Los Angeles International Beer Competition, going bottleneck-to bottleneck with 1,460 entries from 240 breweries.

Nevada’s oldest brewery took home a Silver Medal in the Sweet Stout or Cream Stout category with its Outlaw Milk Stout and an Honorable Mention in the English-Style India Pale Ale category with its Ichthyosaur "Icky" IPA, named after Nevada’s state fossil. This brings the total medal count for the Outlaw Milk Stout to six at major competitions, which include the coveted World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival, and cements its place as one of the most highly regarded stouts in the world.

Great Basin Brewing Co. is the only Nevada brewery to be recognized this year. The brewery also placed in the 2016 competition with Silver Medals for The Great Pumpkin Ale, Kaffir Lime & Basil Saison and Ichthyosaur "Icky" IPA.

“We are honored to, once again, be among the best of the best in the competitive craft brewery arena,” said Tom Young, owner and brewmaster. “It’s a testament of our dedication to the craft and our love of great-tasting brews.”

Each year, an esteemed panel of judges at the Los Angeles International Beer Competition use a blind-tasting method to award medals to the best beers from around the world, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

Judged in April, the beer competition drew entries from as far as Croatia, Vietnam, Quebec and British Columbia. Entries were received from 29 U.S. states including California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Wisconsin, New York, Arkansas, Oregon, Idaho, Washington DC and Hawaii. Entries were up 30 percent from last year according to competition organizers, with the craft beer industry booming. Beers were submitted into 95 divisions, with many styles and price ranges represented. Beers were tasted over four days by a 100-member panel comprised of Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) judges, brewmasters and beer industry officials. This year, judges handed out 88 Gold Medals, 89 Silver Medals, 81 Bronze Medals and 35 Honorable Mentions.
