A convoy of protection forces from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, together with members of the Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM) visited the incident location where six aid workers were killed at the weekend, approximately 53km outside the Capital Juba.   

The integrated team, representing UNMISS Human Rights, JMEC, and CTSAMM were met by local security forces of the Anti-Poaching Unit at Bandigilo National Park road Junction. They were taken directly to the scene where the ambush took place killing six humanitarian workers. The victims included three South Sudanese and three Kenyans working for a national non-governmental organization. 

In the past two months there has been a sharp increase of attacks on aid workers and their premises mirroring a rapid deterioration in the security and economic situation of the country. The ambush took place on the Juba-Pibor road approximately 3.4km from Badingilo National Park and brings the total of 80 aid workers killed in South Sudan since the December 2017 crisis.
