New Gymnasium for DHPS

Soon, the gymnasium of the DHPS will shine in a new look and become one of the most modern sports facilities in Namibia. The Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany supports the extension of the building with a financial contribution to the tune of 1.2 Million Euro (ca. 17 Million NAD). The important contract was signed by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Namibia, Christian Schlaga, as well as representatives of the ”Deutscher Schulverein Windhoek (1949)” Niels Serrer and  Conville Britz on 6 March 2017. The principal of the DHPS, Ms Kristin Eichholz was also present at the signing.

The new gymnasium is scheduled for inauguration in 2018, enabling the DHPS to be an excellent host for the next Sports Olympiad of the German schools in Southern Africa.

Ambassador Schlaga wished the DHPS success in the realization of the construction. With this commitment, the Federal Republic of Germany confirms its great interest in the positive development of Namibia´s only German School Abroad. It is the shared goal, that the school will be further able to increase its societal role as an integrated school of encounter in the interests of the Namibian society and German government.

He also congratulated the DHPS on winning Second Place at the “DAS – learning and living together” competition, which was held by the German Federal Office of Administration together with the Federal Foreign Office and chose the best German School Abroad in the category “Social Inclusion”. This success shows once more, that the school rightly carries the award of “Excellent German School Abroad” by the Federal Republic of Germany since 2011. This award to the school was recently confirmed by a federal state inspection.

The Deutsche Höhere Privatschule is part of the 140 German schools abroad, which are supervised by the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA) by order of the Federal Foreign Office and with input of the German Federal States. The ZfA supports the schools with personnel as well as financial and pedagogic resources and accompanies the schools on their path towards quality-oriented school development. The ZfA holds consultations for the founding of new schools, the creation of German syllabi at local schools and the introduction of German certificates according to international standards.
