MILWAUKEE, WI, UNITED STATES, February 13, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Royal Wood Floors specializes in hard wood floor refinishing and installing hard wood floors in the greater Milwaukee area and has been highly successful for over 15 years. “After servicing or installing a new floor, we make a point of providing the following as a special series of tips for every customer in order to ensure that their floors are protected and provide that stunning hard wood beauty for as long as possible”, says Keith Allman who owns Royal Wood Floors. He continues to say, “there are a variety of problems that can affect the beauty and life of hard wood floors and once these are isolated they can be handled properly so that the hard wood lasts for years the way it should”. Different types of hard wood floor damage can often times be dealt with through hard wood floor restorations. In this article we want to discuss problems such as what is called, “Shake” and the Unevenness of an entire wood floor in order to better educate the homeowners that want to keep their hard wood floors beautiful and long lasting.

What is Shake?
This is the separation or weakness of woods fiber bond between or through its annual rings. Shake is also confused with “Checks”, parallel to the face (as happen in quarter sawn and riftsawn boards) or raised grain.

Shake is usually considered to be naturally occurring in the tree. Changes in environmental humidity can make shake visible when it was not visible during the time of the floors installation initially. Shake should not be installed if visible at the time of installation. If boards with shake appear in the floor, it may be possible to repair the boards using low viscosity, CA (cyanoacrylate) adhesive. The wood floor professionals that are installing the floor should know about this product.

Applying the adhesive under the seam of the shake is the correct way to handle this. The adhesive will wick down and hold the shake or the boards may need to be removed and replaced completely.

Unevenness of Entire Floor
This is where the entire floor as a unit appears to be uneven. In a wood joist system, causes include warped and/or loose subfloors, joists that are warped or fractured, settled support pillars, foundation settlement or installed flooring parallel to joists. In a concrete slab system, a cracked and or settled slab can be the cause of this or simply an uneven subfloor. The structural integrity of a subfloor system is not the responsibility of a wood flooring contractor unless he or she installed the subfloor system. However, wood flooring contractors should check the floor for flatness before beginning an installation, and the party responsible for the subfloor installation should make necessary repairs prior to installing a new hard wood floor.

“The best way to prevent problems is to always do the research first or seek professional help. Then problems such as the ones described here can be prevented,” says Allman.
