A testament to us all that finding enjoyable and meaningful work is possible

My role with ETC has allowed me to include my family. They attend our fun monthly activities, create friendships with the students, and they are welcomed as a part of the ETC family as much as I am.”

PORTLAND, OREGON, UNITED STATES, February 3, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- This past year, Education, Travel & Culture (ETC) has had one of its most successful years ever, hiring new Local Coordinators and Field Managers across the U.S. and having multiple host families re-apply to host another ETC student. Working for ETC has many benefits, including becoming part of an international family, travel incentives, making life-long friends, professional development opportunities, making an impact on teens around the globe and in your community, and the flexibility that comes with working from home.

We live in a culture that urges us to choose a career based on its ability to provide financial stability or that closely aligns with our educational background rather than one that supports our passions and life-long goals. Sarah Candelaria, one of ETC’s Regional Managers, has been with ETC for over seven years and knows first-hand just how rewarding it is to make an impact on her students, hosts and her own family. Her story is compelling, and a testament to us all that finding enjoyable and meaningful work is possible.

“For the last seven years, I have had the pleasure of being part of the ETC family. The organization sets itself apart from many others by making all staff and volunteers feel valued and ensuring that they have a meaningful role on the team. Starting as a Local Coordinator seven years ago, ETC was my part-time job. I worked for a local school district and enjoyed the interaction with host families and exchange students as a bonus on the side. I was able to fit my new passion with ETC into my work schedule and fulfill the expectations on my schedule, which was very important to me as a working mom.

As the region I was responsible for grew with more students and host families, my role with ETC grew as well. I was offered the Assistant Field Manager position while working at the University of New Mexico. Although the role had more responsibility and took more time, the flexibility was still there, again a huge reason why this position fit so well into my life. My role with ETC has allowed me to include my family. They attend our fun monthly activities, create friendships with the students, and they are welcomed as a part of the ETC family as much as I am.
With time my family and I made some big changes. We added another child to our family, decided to homeschool and I was offered another promotion as Regional Manager. I am eternally grateful that I can be home with my kids and homeschool them. The workload has increased, and I still have to balance my time between work and family, but ETC’s love for family life allows me to have the best of everything.

Another benefit of working for ETC has been the opportunity to build a community within a community. Something that I strive for in all of my regions is a sense of community and family and the sense of belonging. The same sense of belonging that I received from ETC is now shared with the students and host families that I come in contact with daily. People that I would have probably never met if it weren’t for this job are people that I now call my ETC family.”
