Lollicup USA installs new Reifenhäuser extruder
CHINO, CA, UNITED STATES, January 23, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Lollicup USA Inc., which proudly manufactures in the United States, has installed its brand-new, state-of-the-art extruder.
The large, top-of-the-line extruder is a machine made by the Reifenhäuser Group, which is the leading provider of advanced technologies for plastics extrusion.
This massive machine, which shipped in 26 containers over the course of several months, will replace the extruders currently in use.
Poli Chou, plant assistant manager, said the extruder will overall cut energy use by about 20 percent, while improving production by at least 40 percent. The company is also able to produce more sheets of plastic on its own instead of purchasing from another company.
This machine is the “Cadillac” of extruders, production supervisor Ron Gonzales said. The Reifenhauser produces 2,000 kilograms (4,409 pounds) per hour, which is significantly more than the company’s other machines, which produce 600 kilograms (1,322 pounds) per hour.
Installation began this past summer, and the testing phase began in September. The extruder is capable of making thicker, higher quality sheets of plastic, Gonzales said. These sheets are used to form Karat cups and lids.
The process begins when resin dispenses into the machine and melts down into a hot, liquid plastic. The molten plastic drains onto cold rollers, which are set a 25 degrees Celsius (77 Fahrenheit).The plastic solidifies and the thickness of the newly formed sheet is measured. The sheets go through a silicating process for sanitation purposes and are then cut, rolled and prepared for thermoforming.
