PCIHIPAA Teams with American Osteopathic Association to Help Members Comply with HIPAA

PCIHIPAA will Work with AOA Members to Quickly Uncover Key Vulnerabilities and Corrective Actions to Comply With Evolving HIPAA Requirements

SANTA MONICA, CA, UNITED STATES, January 12, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- PCIHIPAA is partnering with The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as its newest affinity partner to help streamline HIPAA compliance for its members. Under HIPAA’s Security and Privacy Rules, healthcare providers are required to take proactive steps to protect sensitive patient information. The partnership comes on the heels of an important announcement surrounding HIPAA compliance regulation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights recently announced that random HIPAA audits are expected to continue throughout 2017. In addition, the rising number of patient privacy claims, and ransomware attacks on medical practices, have escalated the importance of compliance and patient data protection.

“Data security is a top concern for doctors and their patients, which is why AOA chose to partner with PCIHIPAA. Our physicians want to focus on caring for patients, not navigating complex compliance issues. We believe these tools can quickly help DOs in private practice mitigate risks and increase the security of patient data,” said Matthew Kremke, AOA vice president for business development.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, OCR has received over 144,000 HIPAA complaints following the issuance of the Privacy Rule in April 2003. A rising number of claims filed under HIPAA in recent years have led many patients to question whether or not their personal payment and health information is safe. As the government has become more aggressive in HIPAA enforcement, large settlements have become widespread and rising penalties for HIPAA non-compliance are a reality.

According to HHS.gov, the types of HIPAA violations investigated most often are:
1) Impermissible uses and disclosures of PHI
2) Lack of safeguards of PHI
3) Lack of patient access to their PHI
4) Lack of administrative safeguards of electronic PHI
5) Use or disclosure of more than the minimum necessary PHI

“We are excited and honored to partner with the American Osteopathic Association, and to help all AOA members navigate HIPAA compliance and protect patient data,” said Jeff Broudy CEO of PCIHIPAA. “Our mission is to help medical and dental practices easily and affordably navigate HIPAA requirements and provide the solutions they need to protect their patient information. Every AOA member can take an online risk assessment and receive a 23 page risk report to quickly assess their vulnerabilities. We’ll review every report with AOA members and quickly provide them with a compliance roadmap. It’s a great way to start 2017,” adds Broudy.
