Supported by Gazprom Neft, Russia’s most important street-art festival draws to a close

Gazprom Neft, as part of its “Home Towns” corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, has supported the “Stenograffia” graffiti festival for the second time, with 66 artists from Russia and abroad setting up more than 60 art installations in streets across 10 cities — the 2016 festival setting a record both in terms of geography and sheer size.

“Stenograffia-2016” took place throughout July to November, with outstanding graffiti this year appearing in Ekaterinburg, Orenburg, Noyabrsk, Muravlenko, Omsk, Khanty-Mansiysk, and the Yamal villages of Novy Port and Cape Kamenny. The festival finished with teams of artists decorating façades in the centre of St Petersburg with unique light installations, never before seen on building exteriors, with LEDs creating a reflection of the starry sky on the surface of the River Neva. Artists in every participating city also led interactive events for local residents, giving them the opportunity to gain insights into street art and having a go at being graffiti artists.

“Stenograffia” is an annual street-art event, bringing together leading graffiti and street artists in Russia and worldwide. The Festival was first held in Ekaterinburg in 2010. The Festival has, over the years, seen dozens of street-art installations and artworks created which have since become well known not just throughout Russia but also abroad, subsequently included in major catalogues of street art. In 2015, supported by the Gazprom Neft corporate social responsibility (CSR) “Home Towns” programme, the Festival had the opportunity of moving to a new level, increasing the number of creative nominations at the competitive stage ad significantly expanding the circle of participants.
