BIDDING ENDS AT MIDNIGHT DECEMBER 19 FOR UNIQUE AVIATION ADVENTURES AND LUXURIOUS CREATURE COMFORTS

Second annual Land Away Auction to benefit Air Race Classic, historic all-women airplane race

COLLEGEVILLE, PA, USA, December 13, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Just a few more days remain for a chance to win the flight of a lifetime in a fighter jet, a classic biplane or an aerobatic airplane through the Air Race Classic's second annual Land Away Auction. Bidding for these and other unique auction items, including a luxurious vineyard retreat, a "flying memories" quilt, lunch with TV personality and pilot Ariel Tweto — even a spot in next year's Air Race Classic — closes at midnight Monday, December 19, 2016.

The Land Away Auction is the winter online fundraiser for the Air Race Classic (ARC), the annual all-women cross-country airplane race. Every year, the ARC brings together approximately 125 female pilots of all ages and from all walks of life who compete in a high-speed sprint across the country, covering 2,500 miles in four days. Next year's race, the 41st ARC, will begin June 20, 2017, in Frederick, Md., and end June 23, 2017, in Santa Fe, NM.

Funds raised in the Land Away Auction enable the ARC, which traces its roots to the 1929 Women's Air Derby, to obtain the technical equipment and support necessary for competition in the 21st century.

Top among the aviation prizes in this year's auction is a flight with air show pilot and national aerobatics champion Debbie Rihn-Harvey in an Extra 300L or Pitts S2-B.

Lucky bidders who are fans of fast flight can take a ride with a Reno Air Race competitor in a Czech military training jet.

For those who prefer staying earthbound, there is a luxurious retreat at Oregon's prestigious De Ponte Cellars Vineyards.

Other one-of-a-kind auction items include a hand-made T-shirt quilt representing events held by The Ninety-Nines, the International Organization of Women Pilots, from 1989 through 2005; a flight in a beautifully restored, open-cockpit Waco biplane, courtesy of ARC President Lara Gaerte; lunch with pilot Ariel Tweto, star of the Discovery Channel's hit TV show "Flying Wild Alaska"; and lucky Number 13 in next year's Air Race Classic.

The auction is hosted on Bidding Owl’s charity auction website and can be found at http://www.biddingowl.com/Auction/home.cfm?auctionID=6351. Bidding can also be accessed through the Air Race Classic's Facebook Page, http://www.facebook.com/AirRaceClassic or website, http://www.airraceclassic.org.
