Why Yas Island is the perfect golf in the sun destination
The Yas Links offers a Championship 18-hole links course, as well as a 9-hole academy course which both run alongside the Arabian Sea among Yas Island.
The Championship course is a true links course that provides a challenging undulating landscape, 119 bunkers as well as the sea being mere meters from the fairway. Also, measuring at 7,414 yards off the Championship Tees, it’s definitely not a ‘leave the driver at home’ course. But there are 5 different tee positions to choose from so you can make your driving as easy as possible.
Designed by Kyle Phillips, there are a number of noticeable holes but the stand-outs have to be both closing holes on each nine. The 9th is a par 4 with danger right off the tee. A long drive carrying the water is required to then leave yourself a shorter iron in, as the green slopes backwards so the more control you can gather from your approach, the more likely you are to find a green-in-reg.
The 18th is then one of the fine finishing holes in golf with a coastline running up the entire left side of this hole, making it possible to find the hazard from both your drive and your approach. There is also a central bunker in-play off the tee, just to make this hole even harder than ‘just hit it straight’. If you manage to go so far without losing a ball, keep right and avoid the coastline consuming your ball and you’ll be one of few to say you’ve never lost a ball around Yas Links!
But if finding the water is a real passion of yours, there is even more of it at the Clubhouse. An iconic infinity pool awaits any golfers on completion of their round or perhaps for a refreshing start to the day. Either way the Yas Links is fully equipped for your needs with Steam Rooms in the changing rooms as well as fully-lit practice facilities, and of course a pint in the Clubhouse.
