Obama Discusses Health Care Reform at Forum
The president makes a pitch on health care reform.
Press Release Service- Wired PR News – President Barack Obama spoke about health care reform on Wednesday at a community college forum. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama hugged cancer patient Debby Smith, who has problems maintaining employment and obtaining health insurance due to her illness, and promised immediate help for her, as he discussed the need for more preventative and cost-effective care.
President Obama is quoted by the AP as stating during the session of changing Medicare incentive formulas, “The biggest thing we can do to hold down costs is to change the incentives of a health care system that automatically equates expensive care with better care.”
Obama further discussed the need for a public option which would be in competition with private health care insurers, an idea strongly opposed by Republicans. The president is quoted as stating that such a measure would facilitate, “”competition and choice” and “keep insurers honest.”
