Multi-speaker event to feature Jonny Imerman, founder of Imerman Angels

CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, October 27, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ManTalks Chicago and Live for Yourself Consulting will host an interactive event focused on modern mentorship and building better men and women through conversation, connection, and community. This multi-speaker event, featuring Jonny Imerman, founder of Imerman Angels, will be held November 7 at 6:00 p.m., at WeWork Kinize, 20 W. Kinzie, Chicago. Speakers will also include, Halleemah Nash, executive director of iMentor, Benjamin Ritter, founder of Live for Yourself Consulting, and Connor Beaton, founder of ManTalks. “There is a belief that established gender-based behaviors are losing their foothold, but most traditional prejudices still remain constant in our behaviors. ManTalks Chicago is a first step towards addressing and improving the frustrations we experience in our relationships from outdated and hypocritical gender bias,” said Benjamin Ritter.

For example, a recent Mens Health magazine study showed that today, nearly 50 percent of men admit to shaving or trimming their leg hair, yet almost fifty percent of women believe men shouldn’t shave their legs. What do these beliefs mean for masculinity and gender roles? What does the phrase; “Be a man?” mean today and why do we still use it?

Ritter has teamed up with ManTalks, “a space for the modern man to evolve through authenticity, community, purpose and accountability,” to “redefine masculinity for the modern era,” through focusing on mentoring men and women in the areas of personal development, education, and advocacy. ManTalks Chicago is the inaugural event of the series, scheduled to take place every three months in Chicago.

“Conflict develops in our relationships when we act -- and react -- based on our gender biases without realizing or recognizing it,” said Ritter. “It is critical that we develop the mentors of tomorrow that can advocate for a more extensive and flexible definition of masculinity, and thus healthier relationships. It’s time we brought people together to discuss this and other related issues.”
