MELODIA WOMEN’S CHOIR OF NYC presents Autumn Rhapsody

Dvořák's Largo, part of NY Phil 175th Anniversary New World Symphony, U.S. Premiere works from Rudi Tas & Tonu Kõrvits

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, October 17, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Melodia Women’s Choir, New York’s premier ensemble for women’s choral music led by artistic director Cynthia Powell, announces Autumn Rhapsody, a program for audiences eager to experience Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat performed in its original version for women’s voices. Listeners will also encounter music from contemporary composers Eleanor Daley, Ola Gjeilo, and be the first to hear the U.S. premiere of Rudi Tas's Seven Blake Songs, and the New York premiere of Tõnu Kõrvits's Ütle Sina (Tell Me).

Melodia will also perform a historic vocal arrangement of the Largo from Dvořák’s New World Symphony as part of the NY Philharmonic’s 175th Anniversary New World Initiative. The arrangement was created by Margaret Dryburgh and Norah Chambers for a performance by and for women POWs held by Japanese forces in a WWII internment camp in Sumatra. With this performance, Melodia pays tribute to the women who sang to survive the cruelties of war, and to those who sing to create a better world everywhere.
