Violin Memory Continues to Extend Support for Enterprise Cloud Environments with Mirantis OpenStack

/EINPresswire.com/ -- Latest Release Enables Mirantis Users to Take Advantage of Industry Leading Flash Storage Solutions

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwired - October 24, 2016) - Violin Memory®, Inc., (NYSE: VMEM) a global pioneer of award-winning all flash storage platform solutions for primary storage and active workloads, today announced availability of a Block Storage (Cinder) driver supporting the Liberty release of the Mirantis distribution of the OpenStack Platform.

This driver release demonstrates that the Violin Flash Storage Platform (FSP), which offers an industry leading combination of low-latency, affordability, density, scalability, and performance, is supported under the Liberty release of the Mirantis OpenStack distribution. Violin's Concerto™ OS 7 operating system integrates with the Liberty release of OpenStack to deliver expanded flash storage performance, tightly integrated data services and management simplicity.

With the Liberty release of the OpenStack Cinder driver, Violin is also announcing support for Consistency Groups. Consistency Groups take advantage of the advanced features of the FSP to enable greater levels of data protection as well as remote replication. With this new functionality, users are now able to take snapshots of multiple volumes which are in a single consistency group at the same point-in-time to ensure data consistency.

The Liberty driver release also supports Violin LUN encryption technology. Violin's software based LUN encryption can be turned on or off on a per LUN basis and is supported across all supported LUN types, including thick, thin and deduplication LUNs. Violin FSP arrays take advantage of software based encryption to maintain keys off of the array, which can offer better data protection than hardware encryption.

As a leading OpenStack distribution, the Mirantis platform has become a key platform on which many businesses have built private and hybrid cloud computing environments to support Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Cinder is the infrastructure service for managing block-based storage in the OpenStack framework. Violin's Cinder Driver for Concerto OS 7 integrates directly with OpenStack-based private and public clouds via its sophisticated REST API, delivering a highly agile platform that supports developer operations, with support for all required OpenStack Liberty Cinder APIs. The driver comes with every Flash Storage Platform at no additional cost and is fully documented to simplify deployment, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

"Violin is committed to our growing customer base of cloud service providers and enterprises deploying private and hybrid clouds," said Sudhir Prasad, Senior Director, Product Management. "This release allows customers to seamlessly take advantage of the high performance and low latency of the Flash Storage Platform."
