Mission of Hope, Haiti: Organizations Come Together to Deliver $5.6 Million in Aid Supplies to Haiti

/EINPresswire.com/ -- Millions of Meals, Medical Supplies and Lumber Arrive this Week

CEDAR PARK, TX--(Marketwired - October 24, 2016) - 45 containers filled with almost 12 million meals, tarps, medical supplies and hygiene kits will arrive in Haiti this week thanks to a massive collaboration between Mission of Hope, Convoy of Hope, BNSF Railway, and Fortress Investment Group.

Long-time partners Mission of Hope and Convoy of Hope donated the 5.6 million dollars in supplies. Moving that amount of supplies to Haiti is costly and challenging, but BNSF Railway, together with affiliates of Fortress Investment Group, offered to donate the expedited transportation of these aid items to Haiti.

"Thanks to the hard work of dozens of BNSF employees and our partners, we were able to coordinate the drayage and secure the containers and other assets needed to carry the supplies for their long journey," says Doug Langston, assistant vice president of marketing equipment for Business Unit Operations at BNSF. "All of that hard work paid off, and our relief train left a day earlier than originally scheduled."

Five more containers loaded with additional donated medical supplies, water filters and lumber provided by Home Depot for constructing and repairing homes will arrive soon after the initial 45 containers.

Upon arrival, Mission of Hope will distribute all of the aid to the areas with the most need via its HaitOne network.

"We are so thankful for the collaborative effort to move this amount of supplies so quickly to the people of Haiti. This will allow us to put much needed help into the hands of so many who are suffering as we work to help them rebuild," says Brad Johnson, President of Mission of Hope, Haiti.

Mission of Hope has distributed over 800,000 lbs of food and supplies through its HaitiOne network since the hurricane and is committed to a long-term plan to help bring recovery and sustainability to the country, including building 1,000 new homes in the hardest hit areas.

Mission of Hope would like to thank the many additional partners who made this effort possible, including Feed My Starving Children, Meals from the Heartland, NuSkin, Kids Against Hunger, and Gleanings for the Hungry, Crowley Maritime, CSX, Florida East Coast Railroad, and TRAC Chassis.
