Creed Continues Post Brexit Trade Efforts in Paris & London

The Minister for Agriculture Food & Marine, Michael Creed TD, will this week travel to Paris & London to continue efforts to promote the Irish agri-food sector, in the aftermath of the UK’s decision to exit the EU.  Following on from a successful four country Trade Mission to South East Asia in early September, Minister Creed will this morning (Monday) attend SIAL in Paris, the world’s largest business to business trade fair.  On Tuesday he will travel to London to begin a process of engagement with the UK’s largest multiples.

SIAL is one of the world’s largest food innovation exhibitions with upwards of 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 Countries and an attending audience predicted to exceed 160,000.

Speaking ahead of his attendance in SIAL the Minister said:

“Irish exports grew to €10.8 billion in 2015.  Food Wise 2025 has an ambitious target of €19 billion in exports by 2025.  In order to meet this target, particularly in a post Brexit situation, no stone can be left unturned in terms of promoting Irish produce on a World stage, and there is no stage as big as SIAL to achieve this.  I hope to add to Bord Bia’s efforts here this week in developing our presence in the French market and also furthering opportunities elsewhere given SIAL’s multi-national attendance”.

On Tuesday Minister Creed travels to London to meet with one of the UK’s largest multiple retailers, and importer of Irish food products.

Commenting ahead of this meeting Minister Creed said:

“Our tradition of trade with the UK is deeply rooted and must be protected in whatever arrangement emerges from the post Brexit scenario.  I will be working at both a political level and a trade level to ensure that the Irish position is clearly articulated in that we are committed to maintaining our strong trading relationship with the UK in to the future”.
