Artist, Soraida Martinez, will be honored for her contributions to the Latino community, both as an artist and an advocate for social change.

CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY, USA, October 12, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Known for creating the art of Verdadism, Soraida Martinez will be honored for her contributions to the Latino community, both as an artist and an advocate for social change. This cultural legacy award will be presented to the artist by The Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey during its Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Annual Fundraising Event, which awards merit scholarships to law students so they can continue their legal studies at Rutgers Law School-Newark, Seton Hall University Law School, Rutgers Law School-Camden and other area law schools. A small exhibition of original Verdadism paintings will be on display at this event.

Since 1992, the artist has been creating paintings juxtaposed with written social commentaries that promote hope, tolerance and self-empowerment. Many of the Verdadism paintings and social commentaries address racism, sexism, stereotyping and the social issues that affect Latinos, Women, African-Americans, and the disenfranchised members of American society. Several of the artist’s paintings have been featured in college and university textbooks on Latino studies.

According to Soraida, "to be recognized by The Hispanic Bar Association for contributing to the arts and Latino culture makes me feel like the Art of Verdadism has come of age. Plus, the award is coming from an organization that embodies my views about the importance of education for the Latino community, so it means that much more to me."

Founded in 1980, the Hispanic Bar Association of NJ is a 501 (c)(6) statewide organization which represents the interests of attorneys, judges, law professors and law students who share a common interest in resolving the issues affecting Hispanics within the legal community.

An important contemporary artist, Soraida Martinez is a painter known for creating Verdadism, a mix media painting genre decades ahead of the current sociopolitical times. In 1992, Verdadism boldly marked today’s socially conscious movement by advocating social change. The artist is recognized for her innovative artistic achievements, plus the unique value she brings to American culture.
