Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met today on the margins of the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago with Chilean Minister of National Defense Jose Gomez. Secretary Carter and Minister Gomez discussed the U.S.-Chilean defense relationship and a range of security issues including peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, and defense technology. Secretary Carter noted Chile's leadership on gender integration, women, peace, security, and LGBT issues in the armed forces. At the conclusion of their meeting, Minister Gomez and Secretary Carter signed a research, development, testing, and evaluation agreement. The agreement will expand cooperation between the two countries on defense technology.
