Comverge Japan Starts New Demand Response Program With Kansai Electric Power Company and Kanden Facilities

/EINPresswire.com/ -- NORCROSS, GA--(Marketwired - October 11, 2016) - Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of cloud-based demand response and energy efficiency solutions for electric utilities, today announced a new demand response program with Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO), the second largest integrated power company in Japan. Also participating in the program is Kanden Facilities (KFA), a facility management service provider and a KEPCO group company. The program is supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) who is assessing the potential of demand response in Japan.

Comverge will work together with KEPCO and KFA to meet the target load shed amount through output control of generators as well as load shed of common appliances found in standard office or commercial buildings.

KEPCO will use the Comverge IntelliSOURCE Enterprise demand response management system to automatically dispatch control events using OpenADR 2.0b protocol for automated demand response. KEPCO will also use the Comverge IntelliPEAK switch to control HVAC and other appliances at the KFA facilities.

"The initial program with KEPCO and KFA was a tremendous success and demonstrated that demand response can play a meaningful role in helping Japan ensure grid reliability," commented David Ellis, Representative Director, Comverge Japan. "We are very excited to work with KEPCO and KFA on this new project as we look to further the penetration of demand response resources in Japan."
