An Interview with the Environment Agency

Energy from Waste 2016

Quick Fire Q&A released with the Environment Agency ahead of their opening keynote at SMi’s 9th Annual Energy from Waste industry congress

we in the UK really have to embrace CHP properly if we are to justify using waste as a fuel
— Pandora Rene
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM, September 26, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- SMi Group have released an interview with Pandora Rene, Senior Adviser – Waste and Illegals from the Environment Agency, ahead of her opening keynote at the 9th annual Energy from Waste conference in Central London on 8th and 9th December 2016.

With over 30 years of experience in the waste sector, Pandora started out as a regulator and moved onto high level agency projects involving Landfill Directives, IPPC implementation; and private sector roles in planning and development.

Currently working as a Senior Adviser in the Environment Agency, Pandora is responsible for the regulation of waste and helps with providing legislative guidance to front line-officers. Her main focus involves Duty of Care, Separate Collection and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).

In the run up to her address on RDF, SMi Group caught up with Pandora to discuss industry developments and her upcoming talk. The full interview is available to read in the event download centre at www.efw-event.com

When asked about RDF in energy from waste, she said:

“RDF provides a better option for residual waste which may otherwise go to landfill. Sending that RDF to Europe ensures that it is used in R1 plants which deliver the best value for the fuel.”

Emphasising the importance of Combined Heat Power (CHP), she highlighted the event spotlight on the development of large scale heat networks as one of the event highlights for 2016:

“ …we need to improve our CHP capacity to bring UK up to EU standards…we in the UK really have to embrace CHP properly if we are to justify using waste as a fuel”
