KP Snacks was declared winner of the 'Community Partner' Award at last night's prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards. The ceremony, held at London's The Brewery, celebrated exceptional businesses and industry professionals from across the food and drink supply chain.

KP Snacks, which jointly won the award alongside Bolton bakery Warburtons for separate community activities, captured the prize for its Living Leadership programme and the work it has been undertaking in Stockton-on-Tees.

Each year KP Snacks selects twelve of the most promising potential leaders in the business, called the Living Leadership team, and gives them an intensive training programme to help them realise their potential within the company. The Living Leadership Team brings its business skills and abilities to focus full time on a community project for a week to address a pre-defined problem, but then retains a longer lasting relationship to provide ongoing support.

In 2015 the team worked with Stockton Riverside College to help them develop a business strategy for the future and also strengthen links with local businesses. The Stockton area has the highest rate of youth unemployment in the country and the college and students have benefited from a more commercial insight into strategic planning, structures and operating methods, as well as a greater understanding of the needs of local employers and how they can help the transition of students from college to work.

FDF's Director General Ian Wright said:

“KP Snacks are worthy winners of the Community Partner Award this year. It is clear that the company has made a genuinely positive impact through its outreach schemes in Stockton-on-Tees. Getting company ambassadors out into their communities is a fantastic way of leveraging the expertise, passion and commercial know-how within our industry for the benefit of others, I have no doubt that the young people of Stockton-on-Tees found these sessions highly inspiring as they considered their future career paths.

“KP's commitment to partnering with colleagues and communities to assist individuals and areas through education and community involvement is something we should all applaud.”
