Charleston-based whiskey brand run by two chefs releases Ashcat Blended Bourbon Whiskey

/EIN News/ -- CHARLESTON, S.C., Sept. 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Virgil Kaine Lowcountry Whiskey Company, the distinctive Charleston-based whiskey brand, today announced the launch of their limited time offering, Ashcat, a whiskey that blends the sweetness of a wheated bourbon, the spice of a High-Rye bourbon, and the tannins derived from sherry casks.

Virgil Kaine distributors procured all 400 cases of Ashcat shortly after the limited time offering was released. With notes of butterscotch, orange peel, and dried figs, Ashcat will be available this fall in New York, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, and West Virginia (TBC) markets. Virgil Kaine's founders say they hope to launch their second limited time offering late spring of 2017 and a third limited time offering for the holidays 2017.

"What we find exciting about this particular batch is that, to my knowledge, it is the first time a wheated bourbon and high rye bourbon blend perfectly together and then finish with amazingly delicious flavors derived from sherry casks," said Virgil Kaine founder David Szlam. David Szlam, alongside his partner, Ryan Meany, are two Southern chefs who founded Virgil Kaine in 2013. Szlam, who trained at Chez Panisse and whose restaurant, Cordavi, won Esquire's best new restaurants of 2006, and Meany, who helped launch Charleston's Husk, created the Virgil Kaine brand to be rooted in taste profiles and flavor, over lineage.
