Schools Got Class Golf Invitational for Student Resiliency

California Schools Joint Powers Authorities (CSJPA) Hosts Fundraiser for Student Resiliency and the Safe Schools Ambassadors Program

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Recent U.S. statistics have shown that over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year and according to the National Education Association, approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying. In California alone, one in three middle and high school students reported having been harassed or bullied at least once in the previous year, according to a statewide student survey. Bullying is a cultural problem and the California Schools Joint Powers Authorities (CSJPA) is on track to work with as many schools as possible to reduce the rising incidents associated with bullying behavior.

In its continued efforts to raise awareness and provide funding to improve school culture and empower students, CSJPA is once again hosting their Annual Golf Tournament. The Tournament will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at the Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside. Proceeds from the golf invitational go towards funding and implementing bullying prevention and student resiliency in schools in an attempt to combat increasing negative peer behavior over the last 10 years.

One of the two programs being supported by CSJPA is the Safe Schools Ambassador offered through Community Matters, the nation's most effective bystander education program that harnesses the power of students to prevent and stop bullying and violence. Since 2000, this field-tested, evidence-based model has equipped over 60,000 students across the nation with the communication, conflict negotiation and intervention skills to prevent and stop emotional and physical bullying during and outside of school.

The second program is a partnership between the Blanchard Institute and Meritcore, who together are building resiliency in students and positively impacting school culture. Over 600,000 students have benefited from this program through greater student attendance, improved grades and increased graduation rates all while reducing incidences of bullying and vandalism. Meritcore offers a transformative experience that invites students, families, and school staff to learn and master ways of perceiving and thinking of each individual as “at potential” rather than “at risk.”

A day out on the greens is an ideal way to enjoy a fun day playing golf while supporting students in need in local California communities. CSJPA is asking for your support for this very worthy cause. Sign up and donate online at http://csjpa.org/2016-golf. There are a variety of sponsorship packages to choose from, ranging from $500 to $7,500. Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate and, of course, tax-deductible donations are always accepted.

The tourney also features prizes, meals and exceptional giveaways including a chance to win one of two new cars with a hole-in-one! Golf check-in and contests start at 9:30 am. The tournament tees off at 11:00 am with an awards dinner to follow at 5 pm. For more details, call Melissa Weis at (909) 763-4900 or email mweis@csjpa.org.
