Major equipment for new production facilities at Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery en route via the Neva
Major equipment (produced by domestic manufacturers JSC Volgogradneftemash and Izhorskiye Zavodi) passed through St Petersburg via the Neva. The equipment is to be used in the construction of new facilities as part of the second stage of thoroughgoing modernisation of the Gazprom Neft Omsk Refinery, directed at increasing refining depth as well as output of light petroleum products.
Transportation via the Neva is part of a comprehensive logistical scheme developed by Gazprom Neft to facilitate the delivery of this major equipment to Omsk, in stages, by river and sea vessels — this mode of transport being necessary due to the sheer size and weight of the equipment, with the total weight of the parts and components being despatched to the Omsk Refinery totalling 6,000 tonnes, and the length of the longest column coming in at 63 metres.
The equipment will subsequently be transferred to a lift vessel (derrick barge) and will be despatched towards the Gulf of Ob via the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Norwegian Seas, as well as part of the Northern Sea Route. The third (and final) stage will involve oversized cargo being transported from Novy Port to Omsk via the Ob and Irtysh rivers. The total distance covered in transporting the equipment will be more than 9,000 kilometres. Delivery of the equipment to the Omsk Refinery is expected in October 2016.
