Organisations cannot afford to ignore the GDPR compliance challenge, says IT Governance

ELY, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM, August 9, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, the leading provider of cyber security and data protection expertise, is urging organisations to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in order to avoid fines and penalties associated with data breaches.

This comes in response to a report stating that the overall costs of cyber security incidents and data breaches are much higher than the financial impact of burglary through the European Union over the same period of time.

Alan Calder, founder and chief executive officer of IT Governance, said: “The report’s findings are a concern for organisations. This is a convincing argument that organisations can no longer afford to ignore the urgency of complying with the GDPR.”

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) intends to “strengthen and unify data protection for individuals within the EU” while addressing export of personal data outside EU. The Regulation was approved by the European Commission and Parliament, and is due to come into force on 25 May 2018, by which time organisations collecting and handling EU residents’ data will need to achieve compliance.

Organisations wishing to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) can now take advantage of IT Governance-developed toolkits and training courses, such as: EU GDPR Documentation toolkit, Certified EU GDPR Foundation Live Online training course and Certified EU GDPR Practitioner Live Online Training course.

IT Governance’s EU GDPR Documentation toolkit is designed to help organisations compile all the critical documents needed to comply with the GDPR. For more information about the EU GDPR Documentation toolkit, click here >>

The next online training session will take place on 23 August 2016 and will be delivered live by an experienced data protection consultant.
