Four Pines Films announces the release of Index Funds: The 12-Step Recovery Program for Active Investors, a documentary film featuring UK based financial journalist Robin Powell and Mark Hebner, president of Index Fund Advisors.

The documentary makes use of a 12-Step program to educate viewers about the negative effects of active investing and the benefits of investing in risk-appropriate portfolios of index funds. Hebner and Powell comprehensively reveal the negative consequences associated with behavioral finance and describe Hebner's own investment journey and his ultimate revelation that brokerage firms get rich not by enhancing their clients' wealth, but rather (and ironically), by depleting it. The documentary film won the "Longer Films" category at the June 2016 UK Monthly Film Festival and has been accepted to the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Festival and the DMO Film Festival.

"When investors deploy active investment strategies, they are gambling, plain and simple," according to Hebner. "So many investors are fooled by the misconception that 'playing the markets' will get them the greatest return. In reality, this strategy is nothing more than an addiction, one that plays solely on misinformation, fear and greed. I have created this 12-step program to inform investors about the importance of using a passive investing strategy that is based on evidence, scientific reasoning and quantitative analysis -- a strategy that is in the client's best interest, not the brokers."

The film is based on Hebner's 2015 book titled, Index Funds: The 12-Step Recovery Program for Active Investors which dives deeply into decades of peer-reviewed research by academics and Nobel laureates to prove to investors that using a tax-efficient, low cost, risk-appropriate and diversified portfolio of index funds will improve the expected return of their investments.

"We have been working on this project for about 2 years and we are extremely proud to release the documentary to the public. Our mission is to influence investors to think strategically, not impulsively, about how and where to invest their hard-earned assets," said Powell. "We ask viewers who find the film helpful to share it with others -- by doing so, together we can change investing for the better."

Index Funds: The 12-Step Recovery Program for Active Investors is available now for viewing at IndexFundsTheMovie.com, where the film, trailer, twelve episodes, reviews and the book are available at no cost.
