American Apartment Owners Association To Donate Some NC/MS Sales Proceeds To LGBT Organizations

To demonstrate its support of clients from all walks of life, AAOA will be donating funds from some of its NC/MS sales to LGBT groups.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, July 1, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- American Apartment Owners Association (AAOA), in response to the recent House Bill 2 (HB2), plans to donate some of the proceeds from its sales in North Carolina and Mississippi to LGBT organizations. Moving forward, AAOA says, some of the proceeds of its tenant screenings sales by landlords in these two states will go directly toward supporting LGBT groups. This decision reinforces AAOA's commitment to equal opportunities, Fair Housing standards and support of clients from varied walks of life.

Signed into effect in March, HB2, the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, also known as the Charlotte Bathroom Bill, is a new law that makes it illegal for individuals to use public bathrooms in North Carolina that do not correspond to their biological sex. Transgender individuals, despite genders with which they now identify, must use bathrooms that match the genders on their birth certificates. Firmly against discrimination in any form, AAOA is committed to a mission of ensuring equal housing opportunities for everyone and helping our members comply with federal laws that may contradict local legislation.

In making a decision to support the LGBT community at this time, AAOA joins a host of other notable companies and celebrities, including PayPal, Google, Apple and Bruce Springsteen, raising concern of the new laws. AAOA, with more than 60,000 members, is the largest landlord association in the country, involving members of all backgrounds and affiliations. It offers services such as tenant screenings, landlord forms and a nationwide directory of vendors to its members.
