Gazprom to continue using RAS expertise in its potential projects

June 17, 2016, 15:00

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Vladimir Fortov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, today signed a Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2016.

The document sets out the terms of collaboration between the parties within the framework of Gazprom's innovative activities related to the Company's ongoing and potential projects.

The parties will facilitate scientific and technical cooperation between Gazprom Group and RAS research entities, formulate joint proposals to improve the regulatory framework on relations in the scientific and technical field, create target-oriented research programs, and establish communication platforms to address relevant cooperation issues.

Background

Gazprom has been cooperating with the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) since the mid-1990s. In 2005, the parties entered into a 10-year Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement. Their joint activities are managed by the Coordination Council.

Gazprom has engaged leading academic institutions of the RAS in various research activities with the purpose of, among other things, forecasting gas market behavior, enhancing the reliability of pipeline gas transmission systems, studying complex geological structures, and conducting environmental investigations in the Company's regions of operation. RAS entities have actively contributed to devising the Eastern Gas Program, the program for the comprehensive development of the Yamal Peninsula, and the General Scheme for gas industry development until 2030.
