AN APPEAL TO TAMIL NADU POLITICAL PARTIES BY TRANSNATIONAL GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL EELAM:

DECLARE ACTION PROGRAMS RELATED TO TAMIL EELAM LIBERATION STRUGGLE IN YOUR ELECTION MANIFESTOS!

The people of Tamil Nadu are an integral part of the liberation struggle of the Tamil Eelam Nation. Therefore, we firmly believe that the political parties of Tamil Nadu would take positions that go to strengthen the struggle of the Eelam Tamil people for their rights, in their Election Manifestos for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections to be held on the 16th of May. It is also our steadfast belief that the people of Tamil Nadu would keep in mind the liberation of the people of Tamil Eelam as an important factor at the time of voting. This expectation was expressed by Viswanathan Rudrakumaran, the Prime Minister of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), in a statement on the May elections of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

We seek in solidarity that the political parties of Tamil Nadu include in their respective Election Manifestos the following three standpoints:

1. In order to resolve the Tamil National question, an internationally supervised referendum be conducted in the Tamil homeland and among the Eelam Tamil Diaspora for them to vote among a number of options including the creation of an independent sovereign State of Tamil Eelam-

2. A remedial form of justice should be delivered to the Eelam Tamil people following an investigation of the Genocide inflicted by the Sri Lankan State on the Tamil Eelam nation before the International Criminal Court (ICC) or an equivalent international judicial mechanism.

3. The interests of Eelam Tamils who have sought refuge and political asylum in Tamil Nadu should be ensured in accordance with their political, social, economic and cultural rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which India is party to, and award dual citizenship to those who so wish.


FULL STATEMENT:

The Tamil National Liberation Struggle is now facing a challenging situation. Efforts are afoot to impose a Sinhala State-determined unitary state structure on the Tamils in the name of a political solution to the Tamil national question. A few strong States in the international community can be seen at present to be aiding and abetting this unjust procedure on the basis of their own interests. The desire of those States in the international arena is the meeting of their own interests through good relations with the Sinhala nation and the Sri Lankan state instead of relating on the basis of justice with the Eelam Tamil nation with its small population. The same holds true of the Government of India as well.

In order to effect a change in this situation, it is imperative for the people of Tamil Nadu to resolutely join hands with the people of Tamil Eelam. The people of Tamil Nadu should take in their own hands the political struggle of the Eelam Tamil people. Even though the party in power at present in Delhi is not in need of support from the political parties of Tamil Nadu, the sentiments of a powerful State could not simply be ignored by the Central Government. The people of Tamil Nadu should strive through their political action to change the standpoint of the Central Government of India. If India shifts its stand, there would emerge an international situation in favour of the people of Tamil Eelam.

We earnestly appeal to the political parties and the people of Tamil Nadu to take on the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections of May 16 as a field of opportunity to express their support to the people of Tamil Eelam and their liberation struggle. Therefore, we seek in solidarity that the political parties of Tamil Nadu include in their respective Election Manifestos the following three standpoints:

We believe that all the above standpoints are acceptable to all political parties in Tamil Nadu. The first two of these standpoints have already been unanimously adopted as resolutions by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly with the consent of all parties. However, we mourn the fact that despite the passing of these Resolutions, there has not been sufficient action in Tamil Nadu aimed at making the Government of India accept the Resolutions. In this light, we call upon all political parties to include their plans of action with regards to these standpoints in their respective Election Manifestos.

We request the people of Tamil Nadu to take into consideration the issues of Eelam Tamils as an important factor when deciding which party they would vote for in the elections for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Our earnest appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu is that they express their solidarity by acting in such ways as to ensure that they stand tall as a strong community with overwhelming economic might and political influence, and we invoke that power in order to make ourselves effective partners with regard to the Tamil national question and not remain as mere spectators.

This is the statement of the Prime Minister of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam, Mr Visvanathan Rudrakumaran, in relation to the forthcoming elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to be held in May 2016.


BACKGROUND:

Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka faced repeated mass killings since 1958 and the mass killings in 2009 prompted UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to appoint a Panel of Experts to report on the scale of the killings.

According to UN internal review report on Sri Lanka, over 70,000 Tamils were killed in five months in early 2009 and Tamil women were sexually assaulted and raped by the Sri Lankan Security forces. There are over 90,000 Tamil war widows and thousands of Tamils disappeared due the conflict.

According to this UN Panel, the killings and other abuses that took place amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Independent experts believe that there are elements of these abuses that constitute an act of genocide.

Members of the Sri Lankan security forces are almost exclusively from the Sinhalese community and the victims are all from the Tamil community.

A Buddhist Monk shot and killed a Sri Lankan Prime Minister 1959 for having talks with Tamil political leaders.

Tamils overwhelmingly voted in a Parliamentary election in 1977 to establish an independent and sovereign country called Tamil Eelam. This Parliamentary election was conducted by the Sri Lankan Government.


ABOUT TRANSNATIONAL GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL EELAM (TGTE):

Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a democratically elected Government of a million strong Tamils (from the island of Sri Lanka) living in several countries around the world. TGTE was formed after the mass killing of Tamils by the Sri Lankan Government in 2009.
