FORT LEE, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES, February 16, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- More than 1,350 lots of U.S. & worldwide banknotes, scripophily (stock and bond certificates) and security printing ephemera will be sold at a two-session public auction on Tuesday, February 23rd, by Archives International Auctions, in the firm’s offices at 1580 Lemoine Avenue in Fort Lee, N.J. “We are looking forward to another exciting auction and will be offering numerous banknote rarities, including a new find of early Mexican banknotes discovered in an old estate that have never before been offered at auction,” said Dr. Robert Schwartz, the president of Archives International Auctions. “We anticipate an amazing series of auctions for 2016 with our seventh offering in April of rare Chinese and Russian banknotes destined to be a blockbuster sale.”
Session I on February 23rd, consists of 899 lots overall and will kick off with 370 lots of worldwide banknotes, followed by 529 lots of ephemera, autographs, scripophily, security printing ephemera and U.S. banknotes. For those unable to attend in person, online bidding will be offered via the Archives International Auctions website: WWW.ARCHIVESINTERNATIONAL.COM. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted.
The second session is slated to begin no earlier than 4 p.m. on February 23rd following the first session and will feature 474 additional lots of U.S. & Worldwide Banknotes, Scripophily and Security Printing Ephemera, with live internet bidding only and no printed catalog (but all items will be pictured online). Offered will be 158 lots of worldwide banknotes, including selections from the Arthur Matz collection of modern banknotes, plus rare banknotes from numerous consignors.
Some of the many highlights from the first banknote session will include a Chile, Province of Valdivia Treasury and Customs, 1840s rarity; two unique Bank of Jamaica unadopted essay designs by Harrison & Sons, circa 1990s; an exceptional 1889 Proof from the Banco Espanol De Puerto Rico; and a 1944 Victory Issue banknote from the Philippines, in the rare $500 denomination.
Mexico is represented by 18 amazing early Banco period notes, including three rare 1880s scrip notes from Casa De Becerra Hermanos, Urique, Mexico; a Banco Espanol de Puerto Rico, circa 1889-1890 20 Pesos proof banknote rarity; and desirable single and group lot banknotes.
The banknote section will be followed by autographs, including five lots of Francis Spinner autographed letters, checks and documents; and a signed Buffalo & State Line Railroad stock certificate signed by Daniel Drew. Scripophily will feature 199 lots of automobile, aviation, banking, finance, Confederate, mining, railroads, and rarities from the John E. Herzog collection.
Also included will be selections from a recent find of historic security printer advertising cards, some never seen before, including early predecessors to the American Bank Note Company. Most are circa 1830s-1850’s and extremely rare, if not unique. Also sold will be U.S. colonial, obsolete, Confederate and fractional notes, plus small and large type notes, all highly collectible.
The first session will end with a group of five different U.S. Liberty Loans, including a Liberty Loan bond of 1917, plus other desirable bonds.
