Hemingway will share her personal life story reflecting her journey from surviving the challenges of her family history of alcoholism, mental illness and a legacy of suicide to thriving as she does today as a mother of two daughters, a working actress, and an advocate for those living with mental health related issues.

In 2013, Mariel and Oprah Winfrey executive produced the documentary "Running from Crazy," based on the seven most recent suicides in the Hemingway family, including that of Mariel Hemingway's grandfather Ernest Hemingway, the famed novelist, and her sister, supermodel and actress, Margaux Hemingway. The film is available on Netflix.

"I welcome the opportunity TEAM Cares has given me to come to Michigan," said Hemingway. "By sharing my story, my hope is that others will know that they too can achieve mental health and wellness, even when it seems like the odds are stacked against you."

In 2015, Regan Arts Publishing released two new books including Mariel's memoir "Out Came The Sun" and "Invisible Girl," a compelling diary for young readers enduring family challenges.

"Mariel Hemingway demonstrates that mental illness impacts people everywhere without regard to race, gender or social status," said Tony Pollicella, chairman of TEAM Cares. "Proceeds from this year's event will be used for skills training programs and to benefit the horticulture program at the Drew Transition Center in Detroit."

Drew's horticultural program is the largest school garden market in the country and is helping students with disabilities learn about gardening and proper nutrition.

TEAM Cares' mission is dedicated to providing medical, behavioral and mental health services, along with related support services, to underserved populations in Detroit, Wayne County and surrounding counties throughout Michigan.
