Editorial Exclusive: National Christian Association Adds New Youth Magazine

/EINPresswire.com/ --  LOVE IS MOVING, a national magazine serving Canadian Christian youth, just launched its first print issue with a run of 20,000 copies.

The bi-monthly magazine (www.loveismoving.ca) exists to empower youth to put God's love into action. It is published by The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, a national charity uniting Christians from more than 40 church denominations.

The 32-page magazine, after publishing 12 digital-only test issues over the past two years, is now distributed nationwide along with Faith Today, Canada's Christian magazine (www.faithtoday.ca).

The two magazines are bundled together at a joint subscription price of $29.99/year for six issues.

In each issue of LIM, more than a dozen regular columnists in their teens and 20s reflect on different aspects of the cover theme, some addressing fashion, others movies and others sharing personal experiences or opinions. The debut print issue, Jan/Feb 2016, is themed, "What Does the Bible Say About Love?"

Each issue also includes a four-page journal section readers can work through to reflect on biblical teaching and their own life. Together the journal sections make up an entire app-based curriculum already in use by church youth groups.

The Canadian-made curriculum helps youth explore the biblical understanding of love -- and then live out that love in their communities, unleashing their natural energy and passion to greater acts of service.

Participants share photos, videos, social media posts and written testimonies from their hands-on activities. That content feeds into updates of this dynamic curriculum, revised on an ongoing basis by a diverse group of Canadian youth experts.

The curriculum and magazine are part of a broader youth initiative that includes a TV series and a variety of social media (www.theEFC.ca/LoveIsMoving).

The EFC is investing in this new initiative for the spiritual health of the next generations. The need was demonstrated in a 2011 EFC study (www.hemorrhagingfaith.com) that showed:

  • Only one in three young people who attended church as children still do so today
  • Among those young adults who've left church, 50 per cent no longer identify with the Christian tradition, although among the disengaged 60 per cent said they would study the Bible with a friend
  • Youth and young adults agree experiencing the power of God's love is crucial for developing a lasting faith
