ASA Insurance Announces New Education Initiative For Safe Driving in Salt Lake City

ASA Insurance provides competitive auto insurance rates in the Salt Lake City area.

Most people are aware that their driving records are the strongest factor considered by auto insurance providers.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, November 27, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Most people are aware that their driving records are the strongest factor considered by auto insurance providers. Accident-free drivers are rewarded with lower rates. A number of insurance companies also provide discounts for the length of time that passes without incident. Despite this, the vast majority of people are not aware of all of the safety features available to drivers today. ASA Insurance wants drivers to know how to protect themselves from an accident.

A recent survey of drivers showed that drivers need more information about currently offered safety features. Participants were questioned about nine existing safety features on automobiles. The results showed that only half of the respondents were aware of recent safety innovations such as lane departure warning. Lane Departure warning is a safety feature that keeps drivers alert on the road. When the car leaves its lane it provides a warning alert. The alert comes in either the form of a vibration or an audible warning.

Another feature that roughly half of drivers surveyed were unaware of was forward-collision warning. This innovative safety component alerts drivers that a crash is imminent. It is also known as a pre-crash system. It combines the use of radar with camera and laser sensors to detect when a crash is about to occur. The system does not automatically apply the brakes to prevent the crash, but does warn the driver that it is imminent. This warning system has been documented to provide a crash reduction rate of 25 percent. Research auto insurance in Salt Lake City to see how your rates can go down by driving a safer vehicle.

Studies show that owners of cars with this feature have lower auto insurance claim rates than those whose vehicles are not equipped with the warning system. Forward-collision and lane departure warning systems are common on high-end vehicles.

Even fewer drivers are aware of adaptive cruise control. Not only does it maintain the vehicle at a set speed while driving on the highway, it also keeps it at a safe distance from the car ahead. It can accelerate or brake automatically as needed. It uses radar and camera technology to respond to traffic conditions. Adaptive cruise control systems may not respond as well during certain weather conditions. Always refer to your vehicle manual when relying on this system.

A number of advanced safety systems are primarily available on high-end or luxury vehicles. This is changing as the technology becomes more standard. More affordable vehicles are including these safety features today. Certain systems are even mandated by the U.S. government on all new cars. You may not even be aware of all of the safety features on your own vehicle.

"Learning about your safety options is important for all consumers," says Creed Anderson of ASA Insurance. "This knowledge can keep you safe and keep your insurance rates low by reducing your number of claims."

Learn more about your current vehicle’s existing safety features by referring to your vehicle manual. Search car insurance for Salt Lake City to find out more about discounts for safe drivers.
