Have a Game Plan for a Sober Ride Home This Grey Cup Weekend

/EINPresswire.com/ -- As Canadian football fans count down to the battle between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Ottawa Redblacks in the 103rd Grey Cup this Sunday in Winnipeg, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are encouraging everyone to have a game plan for a safe and sober ride home.

"Take the risk out of the mix. Make your transportation plans well before opening kick-off," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "If you're going to be drinking, take a cab or public transit or arrange for a designated driver."

Getting behind the wheel impaired puts the driver, his or her passengers and every other person on the road at risk. Every day, on average, 4 Canadians are killed and 175 more are injured as a result of impaired driving crashes. MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are asking all Canadians to look out for themselves and one another:

  • don't drive impaired and don't let family members, friends or fellow party-goers drive impaired;
  • don't ride with drivers who are impaired;
  • if you see a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 and report it to police.

"Impaired driving is not an accident, it's a choice," said Allstate Canada President and Chief Executive Officer John O'Donnell. "We need everyone working from the same playbook so that we can all play a part in preventing the tragic deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving. Having a safe and sober ride home after the game is over is a major step in making our roads and communities safer for everyone."

Whether you need a safe ride home from a Grey Cup party or bar, or you're hosting a party and need to arrange transportation for your guests, MADD Canada sponsor #TAXI offers a fast and easy option. Dial #TAXI (# 8-2-9-4) on any cell phone to connect to the first available taxi company or your taxi company of choice. For more information, visit http://www.poundtaxi.com/.
